Fire Ants
They're the worst. I have about 6 bites right now. (Although, that's nothing compared to my fire ant incident in Texas when I was 5.) They are swollen up and itch like the dickens. Yet another reason why landscaping is my least favorite task to do here. I have almost completed my training and may start leading volunteers on construction tasks starting this week. Thank god because I'm getting sick of the training. We worked on putting up blue board sheathing (similar to Tyvek) and installed new windows on Saturday. I'm amazed at how easy it really was. I had to lay on my back on a narrow piece of the roof over the porch while nailing in blue board. It wouldn't have been to bad except I was wearing shorts while laying on the tarp that goes under the shingles and it scratches the skin and leaves little bits of fiberglass or something on your skin which feels like needle pricks for the rest of the day.
On the non-building front. There have been some drunken fights (arguments) over in the other Americorps house the last few days. I guess I got extra lucky with my housing assignment since I got the nicer neighborhood and avoided the college/high-school type drunken lifestyle. I went with the group down to St. Augustine yesterday to check out what is supposedly the oldest city in the country or something like that. Pretty touristy but still had some very nice shops and restaurants. Not a bad place to spend a day. They even have a fort that was built in the 1500s. It is going to being 88 and mostly sunny today so I'm going to be heading for the course in a couple hours. Hope everyone back home is doing well.
