Hot and Heavy, I mean Humid.

It is starting to get a little sticky down here. We get rain just about everyday now. Speaking of rain, I hope my friends in the northeast (especially ones with old cracked basement walls) are holding up in the floods alright. I just got back from a week of golf in Michigan. My team even won 2 of the 3 rounds of golf in the annual JWP outing. Unfortunately I wasn't quite as good at the poker table this year. It was a good time but a little cool as the temperature never got above 80 degrees. Even in Detroit I got screwed by the Chicago air traffic. My plane was late on Monday night coming in from O'Hare so my 9:30 pm flight didn't take off until 10 pm, a 100 knot head wind cost me another half hour in the air, and terrible baggage handlers in JAX added another half hour on the ground here. Luckily I have a good roommate, Nick, who was willing to pick me up from the airport at one o'clock in the morning on a Monday night.

I'm heading to Hotlanta this weekend to see Officer Niez. We're going to play some golf and go to a Braves / Cards game. I'm looking forward to it. I may hit Savannah, GA on my way home. It should be a good warm up for the big cross country trip. If anyone has a sight-seeing recommendations around the country for me I would appreciate hearing them, and I don't need a smart ass response like "The Grand Canyon." However, if know of a good spot to visit at the Grand Canyon I would like to hear about that.

Not much to update on the Boys & Girls Club golf course. Still waiting for the putting turf to arrive which is supposed to come this week.

I hope everyone is having a great summer and I look forward to see you all. Take care.

I just got back from the Smoky Mountains a couple of weeks ago. There are some great hiking trails there and lots of wildlife.

Aren't the smokey mountains in Michael Ray territory. I'm not going to be in that area. My path will be roughly Jax to San Diego to Seattle to Chicago. Actually I think the Smokeys are in TN.

The Smokeys are on the TN/NC border. That is still hours away from Colonel territory.

You should check out Lake Powell in Arizona. I haven't seen it personally, but I hear it's like the Grand Canyon filled with water. In San Diego you should check out the Hotel Del Coronado and make sure you drive up the Pacific Coast Highway when you go to LA. A few other ideas - Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico and the River Walk and the Alamo in San Antonio.

I agree on San Antonio- it's wild to turn the corner and see this old mission (Alamo) surrounded by city. Plan a meal at the River Walk- lots of restaurants on upper and lower levels.
Chris and I drove through Albuquerque, NM, and it was cool looking- part of the city on either side of a mountain.
Hoover Dam is incredible- sooo big! And you can see the lake backed up behind it. The road we drove in was nuts, all twisty. I think it's about four hours from Las Vegas. There is a Visitor Center there and tours which take you down an elevator to the bottom of the dam to look back up.
Balboa Park in San Diego offers tons of stuff, if I recall, like museums, etc. I don't know what the zoo is like these days, but we went over ten years ago and it was kind of disappointing- it used to be the benchmark for zoos, but no longer, at least at that time. They could have updated by now, though.
There is a State Park within the city of San Diego, too. It's not too big, has historic stuff, and is walkable. We stayed at an unusual Best Western by the park. It used to be a small outdoor mall, so it's quite unique- big rooms, plaza areas, exterior elevator. Nice view, too.
Have fun!
